Andrea Graf, lawyer and small business owner of Graf Law, is a small business law firm specializing in providing legal services in her hometown of Hawaii. The firm had no previous online presence and relied solely on word-of-mouth referrals to attract new clients. Andrea recognized the need to establish a professional online presence to expand her reach and credibility in the competitive legal industry in Hawaii.

The primary goal of the project was to create a modern, user-friendly website that showcased the Graf Law’s expertise and professionalism in the law industry. Additionally, the client sought a unique brand identity, including a logo design, that would resonate with her target audience and differentiate her from competitors.

The design adventure began with a casual conversation with Andrea Graf and sharing her vision, values, and aspirations for the website. Understanding Graf Law’s target audience was crucial, so I immersed myself in the local legal market, analyzing competitors websites, and uncovering trends and opportunities through user interviews.

Navigating the Path - Information Architecture and Wireframes

To create a blueprint for the digital journey, I crafted wireframes - rough sketches of each page layout in a way to meet Graf Law’s requirements: user-friendly, simple mechanism to contact and intuitive navigation experience for all visitors. I wanted the website design to be simple and easy to use in an effort to guide potential clients effortlessly to their desired legal services.

Forging a Distinct Identity - Logo Design and Identity

The heart of our quest was to craft a unique brand identity. We delved into design concepts that captured the essence of the firm - professionalism, trustworthiness, and modernity. After a series of iterations, we unveiled the emblem that would represent the law firm to the world.

With the blueprint and emblem in hand, I ventured into the world of high-fidelity mock-ups. This was the moment the website truly came to life, reflecting the law firm's identity with striking visual elements. The designs showcased the professional journey that awaited visitors on each page.

Guiding the Way - Art Direction and Frontend Collaboration

It was time to unite design and development to bring our vision to reality. Armed with detailed design specifications and guidelines, we collaborated closely with Caitlin Neathawk a frontend engineer. Together, we embarked on the final leg of our design expedition, ensuring seamless implementation.

Our journey wasn't without its challenges. We faced the daunting task of translating legal information into accessible language. Striking the perfect balance between professionalism and approachability was no easy feat.
